Over 2,000 actors compete for roles in Dutch ‘Harry Potter and the Cursed Child’

More than 2,000 actors have auditioned for the Dutch version of the play Harry Potter and the Cursed Child, according to producer Stage Entertainment. The number is significantly higher than usual for a major theater production, where typically only a few hundred actors apply.

The high turnout reflects the broad appeal of the production. “It’s more of a theatrical spectacle than a musical,” a Stage Entertainment spokesperson said. “That means not only actors with singing experience are auditioning, but also those primarily known for film, television, and traditional theater.”

The Dutch adaptation is set to premiere in 2026, though the exact date and venue have yet to be announced. Earlier speculation suggested Goede Tijden, Slechte Tijden actor Wilbert Gieske was being considered for the role of Perkamentus, the Dutch name for Albus Dumbledore, but Stage Entertainment has not confirmed this.

The story takes place 19 years after the events of the original books and follows a new generation of students at Hogwarts.

Originally debuting in London in 2016, The Cursed Child was initially performed in two parts. Written by J.K. Rowling, Jack Thorne, and John Tiffany, the play serves as the eighth installment in the Harry Potter series.
