Chip machine supplier ASMI doubles its profits in last quarter of 2024

The Dutch chip machine supplier ASMI International (ASMI) saw their profits double in the last quarter of last year. Turnovers and the number of orders also rose during this period. The company from Almere profited from the demand for adaptions in Artificial Intelligence (AI).

ASMI supplies systems for processing wafers, the thin discs from which semiconductors are made. The chip machine supplier booked a turnover of 809 million euros from October to December, which is an increase of 27 percent on an annual basis.

The bottom line was almost 226 million euros, compared to around 91 million euros a year earlier. Furthermore, ASMI saw order intake increase at the end of last year to over 731 million euros, 8 percent more than in 2023.

The sales forecast for the first quarter of this year exceeded expectations set by the press agency Bloomberg. ASMI is expecting a turnover of between 810 and 850 million euros from January up to April. The analysts are also expecting just over 800 million euros.

In addition, ASMI confirmed their prospects for the whole booking year. The company expects to realize a turnover of between 3.2 to 3.6 billion euros. ASMI did report that it is too early to give a specific estimate due to “market insecurity and because the view of the second half of the year is still limited.”

The chip sector is currently heavily involved in a trade war between the United States of America and China. Bloomberg reported recently that U.S. President Donald Trump is planning on restricting the export of chip machines and chip machine equipment to China even further. Reportedly, U.S. government officials also discussed the matter with Japan and the Netherlands.

ASMI reported that the demand from China dropped in the last quarter of 2024, which impacted the number of orders. The company is expecting turnover from China to be lower this year.
