Three Dutch victims identified in fatal Düsseldorf crash
Authorities have confirmed the identities of three Dutch who died in a multi-vehicle crash in Düsseldorf on Sunday. The victims include a man and woman from the Achterhoek region and a third individual from Gelderland.
The latest victim, a 53-year-old woman, died from her injuries at the hospital on Monday. She was a passenger in a car that flipped several times at a roundabout. The 60-year-old male driver was declared dead at the scene, while another 53-year-old male passenger later passed away in the hospital.
The two Achterhoek residents were traveling together, according to local reports. The third victim, also from Gelderland, was the driver of another vehicle involved in the collision.
Local officials in the Netherlands stated that the victims’ families have been notified. A spokesperson for the Gelderland provincial government said, “The priority now is ensuring the families have the support they need.”
Dutch authorities are working with their German counterparts to coordinate the repatriation of the bodies. The Dutch Ministry of Foreign Affairs confirmed that it is providing logistical assistance to the families.
The accident, which involved at least three vehicles, took place on a major road in Düsseldorf. German authorities are investigating possible contributing factors, including speed and driver inattention.
A spokesperson for the Düsseldorf police stated, “We are analyzing the evidence to determine the exact cause of the collision and continue to encourage witnesses to come forward.”
The incident has drawn attention in Gelderland, particularly in the Achterhoek region, where flags were lowered in some towns. Local authorities have offered condolences to the families affected.
