Video: Fire at Tilburg student housing complex; 70 students evacuated
A fire in a home in a student housing complex in Tilburg resulted in approximately 70 students being evacuated overnight, according to ANP. No one was hurt and firefighters got the blaze under control quickly, but the home where the fire started was left uninhabitable.
The fire broke out at around 1:45 a.m. in a home on the fifth floor of the student housing complex on Verbernelaan. Firefighters started evacuating students around 2:00 a.m., and the blaze was under control around 30 minutes later, preventing the fire from spreading to other apartments in the complex.
Most residents were in communal areas when the fire broke out, a spokesperson for the local emergency services told NOS. They were sheltered in an adjacent building while the firefighters worked.
The fire brigade declared the home where the fire started uninhabitable. The residents of that floor couldn’t go back to their homes due to soot and smoke damage. Residents of five homes on the fourth floor also could not go back. Other students took them in for the night.
The cause of the fire is still unknown.
