Storm Eowyn bringing strong winds to the Netherlands today; No weather warnings yet

Storm Eowyn will bring strong winds to the Netherlands on Friday, but there is only a small chance that it will still qualify as an official storm by the time it hits our country. The day will also see periods of rain, but will be on the mild side with maximums around 8 or 9 degrees Celsius, Weeronline reported. The KNMI hasn’t issued any weather warnings. The changeable and mild weather will continue through the weekend and into early next week.

Storm Eowyn was unprecedentedly strong when it raged over Ireland overnight, but will have lost a lot of its strength by the time it hits the Netherlands. Friday started quite calm in our country, but the wind will pick up as the morning continues, peaking in the first half of the afternoon. At its peak, the southwesterly wind will be fairly strong inland and strong to stormy along the coast.

“There is a small chance that we will reach an official storm,” Weeronline said. “In the coastal areas, wind gusts of up to 80 km/h can occur. In the northwestern coastal area and on the Wadden Islands, the wind gusts can be even stronger.”

Maximums will range between 7 and 9 degrees, making it quite mild for the time of year. The day will be mostly cloudy with periods of rain, especially inland and especially during the first half of the afternoon.

The weekend will start soaking wet with an active rain area moving eastward toward Germany. Some places may get 10 to 15 millimeters of precipitation. The rain will clear up during the afternoon and the western parts of the country may even see some sunshine. The southwesterly wind will be mostly moderate and maximums will range between 6 and 8 degrees.

Sunday will “clearly” be the best day of the weekend, according to Weeronline. “It will remain dry in most places with some sunny periods, only late in the afternoon will the cloud cover increase again from the southwest.” The southerly wind will be moderate to fairly strong with maximums around 6 degrees.

Next week will start mild with maximums around 12 degrees in some places on Monday. There will be regular showers and a strong wind from the southwest. From Wednesday, it will become colder and dryer again.
