Suspects threatened to strangle and break victim in two prior to Apeldoorn honor killing

The four men who are suspected of murdering a 28-year-old woman in Apeldoorn in an honor killing sent each other shocking audio messages and chats about the victim, named Roshin. This was released to the public during the first day of their court hearing in Arnhem.

“She deserves to be thrown away in two pieces,” one of the 27-year-old cousins allegedly sent in a message. He allegedly also sent a message to the victim’s youngest brother, who is also a suspect, that if she is not killed, she will be “handicapped.”

The woman was walking on the Casper Fagelstraat in Apeldoorn when she was attacked from behind and stabbed 28 times in her upper body, throat, and head, according to the Public Prosecution Service (OM). Her three-year-old daughter saw the murder and held her mother’s hand during the first stabbing to the throat. She was physically unharmed.

Peshang A. (36) is the main suspect. He is the victim’s brother and is currently living in Denmark. He was arrested instantly after the stabbing when he became concerned about his niece and confessed to the murder.

He felt that she did not behave in an appropriate manner, he said on his way to the police station. He had used cocaine. “I was out of my mind,” he told the court. The fellow suspects are his brother (28) and two cousins from Germany. One of them, Ahmad A. (37) is also the victim’s ex-partner.

The family accused the victim of "indecent behavior" after her divorce and wanted her to return to live with her parents in The Hague, according to tradition. However, Roshin wanted to continue to live in Apeldoorn with her daughter and was in a new relationship. “If the girl was not here, I would have strangled you,” a message from her 27-year-old brother read.

The case will continue on Thursday. The Public Prosecution Service's argument will follow on this day. This will culminate in the sentencing recommendations. The lawyers will hold their arguments on Monday, January 27. The court will make its ruling on February 20.
