Train services disrupted due to damaged overhead line near Amsterdam RAI
Train traffic between Amsterdam RAI and surrounding stations has been suspended due to a damaged overhead line. The Nederlandse Spoorwegen (NS) expects repairs to continue until at least 4 p.m. Sunday, leaving commuters facing delays and rerouted services.
The disruption has halted train services between Schiphol Airport and Amsterdam Bijlmer ArenA, with NS advising travelers to use metro services as an alternative. Additionally, Intercity trains between Schiphol Airport and Leiden Centraal have been canceled, while fewer Intercity Direct trains are operating on the route between Schiphol and Rotterdam Centraal.
The outage coincides with planned maintenance at Amsterdam Zuid station, which began Saturday. Travelers in the area are already contending with crowded trains, busier platforms, and a modified schedule, which is expected to last until Tuesday, January 28.
An NS spokesperson stated that the damaged overhead line is unrelated to the scheduled maintenance but acknowledged that it has exacerbated travel challenges for commuters. Repair crews are working to restore service as quickly as possible.
