Cyberattack disrupts classes at TU Eindhoven

Technische Universiteit Eindhoven (TU/e) took its internal network offline Sunday after detecting a cyberattack. As a result, students and staff are unable to access network-dependent services, including email, Wi-Fi, Canvas, and Teams, the university reported in a statement.

With the network disabled, no educational activities will take place at least until Monday. The university had planned "limited education" this week, such as makeup sessions and exam preparation.

ICT experts from the university, who still have access to the systems, are investigating the scope and nature of the attack. TU/e expects that its network will be accessible again by Tuesday at the earliest.

Despite the network disruption, the university’s buildings and campus remain open.

“We realize that disabling the network has disruptive consequences for our students, staff, and other parties on campus,” said Patrick Groothuis, vice president of the TU/e Board of Governors. “This necessary step was taken to prevent further damage. We hope for understanding and are doing our best to resolve this issue and restore access to all systems as quickly as possible.”

The university has not disclosed further details about the cyberattack, and a spokesperson was not immediately available for comment.
