Concert in Amsterdam canceled due to a "serious threat"
A concert by Afghan singer Sharafat Parwani scheduled for Saturday evening at the RAI Amsterdam was canceled due to a "serious threat" directed at the event, police said Sunday.
Approximately 1,000 people were in attendance when the decision was announced. "The visitors were asked to leave the venue and return home," the police stated, adding that the evacuation proceeded without incident.
The police spokesperson described the situation as "unsafe for the attending audience," prompting the Amsterdam security triangle — consisting of the mayor, the chief prosecutor, and the police chief — to decide on the cancellation and evacuation of the venue.
Authorities did not disclose specific details about the threat, citing it as "offender information" critical to identifying those responsible. No arrests have been made so far. The concert, scheduled between 8 p.m. and 11:30 p.m., was part of an event organized by Volek Events.
