Nearly no trains will run in the Netherlands from 8 p.m. to 10 a.m. on New Year’s Eve

There will be almost no trains running after 8 p.m. on New Year’s Eve, as is usually the case. A spokesperson for the NS explained that this is because most people are at parties at this time, and the trains would be empty. There are some exceptions to this in certain areas. Trains will restart at 10 a.m. on New Year’s Day.

One exception is that this year will be the first time that Zaandam has an evening connection to Amsterdam. Evening trains will also run between the capital city and Haarlem, and NS evening trains will also run between Rotterdam and Utrecht, with extra stops at Amsterdam Bijlmer and Amsterdam Sloterdijk.

In addition, trains between Schiphol and Amsterdam Central Station will run until 10 p.m. on Tuesday. Intercity trains in various directions will start extra early near Utrecht Central Station, and the early sprinters to Schiphol from The Hague, Lelystad, Amersfoort, Alkmaar, and Hoorn will also run on New Year's morning.

The NS spokesperson said that the trains were not very busy at around 8 p.m. on New Year’s Eve in previous years.
