Fire destroys apartment in Delft, two hospitalized
A fire severely damaged an apartment in a high-rise building on Bachsingel in Delft’s Buitenhof neighborhood on Saturday evening, rendering the home temporarily uninhabitable, according to the Haaglanden Safety Region.
The fire broke out shortly after 7:30 p.m., with flames visibly shooting out of the apartment, officials said. Two individuals were evaluated on-site by ambulance personnel after inhaling smoke and were subsequently transported to a hospital for further examination.
Several nearby apartments were evacuated as a precaution. Residents of those units were allowed to return home after their properties were inspected and cleared for safety, according to the safety region.
The affected apartment sustained extensive damage, forcing its residents to seek alternative accommodations. The cause of the fire has not been disclosed.
Emergency services worked to extinguish the blaze and secure the building, with authorities remaining on-site to assess the situation. Further updates on the investigation into the fire’s origin are expected.
