15-year-old arrested after third explosion in a week at Rotterdam pizzeria

A 15-year-old boy was arrested for being involved in an explosion at a pizzeria in Rotterdam on Saturday. The pizzeria on the Vuurplaat in Rotterdam-Zuid was the target of an explosion for the third time in a week. And for the third time, a 15-year-old boy was arrested, according to the police.

Around 04:00 a.m. on Saturday, the police were called because someone had heard a loud bang in the Vuurplaat and had seen flames near the pizzeria. Because the explosion was also seen by employees of the municipal surveillance camera, the image of the suspect could be sent immediately to the officers on the scene.

Based on his description and direction of escape and with the help of an attentive witness, the police were able to arrest the boy a short time later. Within 15 minutes, the boy was arrested. The suspect is a 15-year-old boy from Rotterdam.

The pizzeria was also the target of an explosion on Saturday, October 12, and Tuesday, October 15. In the first incident, a 15-year-old from Maassluis was arrested after the explosion and a short chase. Last Tuesday evening, a 15-year-old from Rotterdam was arrested.

The two minors were brought before the magistrate last week and taken into custody. The police are carrying out further investigations into all others involved.
