€15 mil. raised for victims of Middle East conflict; Much less than previous campaigns
The Giro555 campaign for the Middle East raised 15,123,219 euros on Wednesday. The amount is much lower than previous Giro555 campaigns, but chairman Harm Goossens is still very pleased, he told NOS.
“The amount is so much higher than I dared to hope for this morning. It is special how the Netherlands has come together, despite all the difficulties in the conflict. It really feels like we are in solidarity with people who really need our help,” Goossens told the broadcaster.
People can still donate. The money will go to victims in Gaza, Lebanon, the West Bank, Syria, and Israel. The aid organizations are developing a distribution key to determine how much money will go to each country.
The national fundraising day started with almost 4.4 million euros already donated to Giro555. According to Goossens, mainly citizens donated money. The business community and other organizations took less action this time.
