Explosion on Chicagostraat in The Hague was the fourth such incident in 10 days

An explosion at the front door of a home on Chicagostraat in The Hague during the overnight from Tuesday into Wednesday caused extensive damage. It was the second incident on that street, and at least the fourth explosives-based arson in The Hague in the past ten days.

In the latest incident, emergency services workers were quickly at the scene. A police investigation was launched, but no arrests were announced on Wednesday. No injuries were reported.

There was also an explosion at a home on Chicagostraat at about 5:45 a.m. on October 8. Police said it could have been a case of mistaken identity that led the assailants to that home, which was also set on fire at 4:50 a.m. on October 7.

"An attempted arson on Herenstraat in Rijswijk that same morning may be related to the incidents on Chicagostraat," police said last week. Two people were arrested in connection with the those three incidents a few days later. They were identified as a 23-year-old man from The Hague, and a 42-year-old man without a fixed place of residence.

An explosive was also detonated on Haagsestraat in The Hague early on October 9. That was accompanied by a message scrawled on a wall stating, "Death to thieves." Several explosions with similar messages took place in Rotterdam a day earlier.
