Booking.com headquarters in Amsterdam defaced and vandalized

The Amsterdam head office of travel accommodation reservation site Booking.com was defaced and badly damaged during the overnight period bridging Sunday night and Monday morning. Dozens of windows and doors were destroyed, and the building was smeared with a red liquid.

Investigators have yet to arrest anyone in the case. The police confirmed reports about the incident which were first reported by local media outlets.

Multiple people are responsible for the action, but their identities are not yet known, police said. A text slogan or document was not left behind.

Booking.com said it was working to clean up the damage at the entrance to the building. “We were shocked by how we found our office this morning, and at this time the safety of our employees is our highest priority. We are evaluating the situation with the police, who are investigating further,” a spokesperson said in a brief statement.

The Booking.com building in the center of Amsterdam has been the site of protests in the past, including by pro-Palestinian activists who believe that the company should stop renting out residences in the West Bank for tourists, vacationers and short stays. Climate activists have also protested at the building in the past.
