Police investigating deceased baby in Groningen; two arrests made

Police are investigating the death of a baby in a home in Groningen. A "medical report" came in about the child at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, police reported. The baby could not be saved by the time the emergency services arrived. The child died in the home on the Wilbenaheerd in the Groningen neighborhood of Beijum.

Two people have been arrested. Their possible involvement in the death of the baby is being investigated. The police would not say whether these were the parents or other people involved in the baby's life. A police spokesperson said that they cannot share anything about that. They would also give no information about the baby's age.

In any case, an investigation has been started into the circumstances surrounding the baby's death. "When a young child passes away, this is very impactful for everybody involved," police added. "This is partly why we want to know what the child died of and how this could have happened."
