Safety Region receives over 184 storm reports of fallen trees and flooding

The IJsselland Safety Region received over 184 reports on Saturday evening during the heavy showers. Most reports concerned fallen trees and flooding, the safety region reported on X on Sunday. The reports were processed between 6:30 p.m. and 11:30 p.m.

In four provinces, Overijssel, Gelderland, Noord-Brabant, and Limburg, the Code Orange weather warning was in effect on Saturday evening due to heavy thunderstorms with strong gusts of wind. A Noord-en Oost-Gelderland fire department spokesman reported that significantly fewer reports were received there than in IJsselland. There, too, it was mainly a matter of fallen trees and flooding. Overall, there were no special incidents, according to the spokesman.

The fire department in Twente received about 12 reports, a spokesperson said. "It wasn't very bad." According to the spokesperson, the reports involved branches being blown away and fallen trees.

The Brabant-Noord Safety Region received around five reports at peak times between 6 and 9 p.m. These were generally about storm damage, but there was also one report about a rudderless ship. However, the control center for this Safety Region reported that a whole series of reports also came in "in overflow from other regions." If other regions are busier, reports can come to us".

The Limburg-North Safety Region only received three reports of storm-related matters. These reports concerned a tree that had fallen on a house, branches that had been blown out of a tree, and a boat that had come loose.

Code Yellow was in effect for heavy showers in the rest of the country. In Hollandsche Rading, several trees fell on the Graaf Floris V road. According to the Utrecht Safety Region, dozens of fallen and damaged trees were involved. And in the Frisian village of Houtigehage, lightning struck, which led to a fire on several roofs of houses.
