FNV wants Dinner Train to pay self-employed workers properly

The FNV union is looking at ways to increase pressure on the Dinner Train company to pay self-employed workers properly. According to Sharon Bandell, the union's project manager for bogus self-employment, some of these workers have been complaining that they have not been paid for some time. "But if you work, you should be paid," the unionist told ANP.

Dinner Train, which offers luxury meals on a moving train, recently canceled all trips due to technical problems with the carriages used. People who had already booked train slots only found out shortly before departure, sometimes not at all, that their train would no longer be running.

Financial problems also appear to be the cause of the canceled train bookings. Many disgruntled passengers complained on social media that they were not immediately refunded the money for their booking. Dinner Train informed customers that they would initially receive a voucher and that the company planned to refund them in stages at a later date. However, the company responded little or not at all to inquiries.

The company had previously spoken to RTV Oost about payment delays. An investigation by Omroep Brabant revealed that Dinner Train still owes some temporary workers several hundred euros. However, the company has been unavailable for comment recently.

Bandell does not want to speak in detail with the employees of Dinner Train until next week. As far as the FNV employee can see now, Dinner Train has mainly worked with students who earn extra money as part-time workers in the company's mobile restaurants.

"I haven't spoken to everyone yet, but there are more than 50 people on the group app," says Bandell. She wants to know exactly what everyone's problem is and what she thinks the union should do. After that, Bandell hopes to be able to announce steps.
