Case dropped against Joost Klein over Eurovision incident

The investigation into Joost Klein over an incident that got him disqualified from the Eurovision Song Contest has been dropped due to lack of evidence, the Swedish Prosecutor announced on Monday.

Klein allegedly made a threatening movement toward a camerawoman during the Eurovision Song Contest, causing her to fall and break her camera. She also sustained minor injuries.

The incident happened backstage after Klein's performance in the second semi-final. Klein’s representation stated that the woman was filming him after it had been agreed several times that he would not be recorded when leaving the stage.

According to the Swedish Prosecutor, the investigation showed that Klein “made a movement that touched the woman’s camera.” The case has been dropped because it cannot be proven that Klein’s action led to “serious fear or that the man had such intentions.”

Klein did not immediately release a statement about the prosecutor’s decision. In late June, he added the tag line, “Eurovision 2025,” to his social media channels. This led to speculation he could attempt to participate in the contest again next year.
