Dutch Royals "very proud" of Olympians; Celebrated in Scheveningen this afternoon
On Sunday evening, King Willem-Alexander and Queen Maxima looked back on “a great performance” by the Dutch athletes at the Olympic Games in Paris. On social media, they shared a statement in which they said they were “very proud.” The top Dutch athletes will be celebrated at the sports beach in Scheveningen on Monday afternoon.
“What a great performance of our TeamNL at the Olympic Games in Paris 2024,” the royal couple began their message. “Beautiful matches and an overwhelming result. We are very proud of all participants and look forward to receiving the medal winners at Huis ten Bosch Palace!”
King Willem-Alexander and Queen Maxima will receive the medal winners on Tuesday. The Netherlands finished sixth in the medal ranking with a record 15 gold medals, the highest ranking the Netherlands has ever achieved. In total, the Dutch team won 34 medals—15 gold, 7 silver, and 12 bronze.
The Dutch top athletes who participated in the Olympic games in Paris will get a welcome home party on the sports beach of Scheveningen on Monday afternoon. TeamNL will be honored on the beach volleyball court, which will already have been set up for the European Beach Volleyball Championships, which start on Tuesday.
The Olympians will travel from Paris to Rotterdam by train this morning and then by bus to Scheveningen. There, a party for them will start soon after 3:00 p.m., during which the athletes will be reunited with their families and friends, and their achievements will be celebrated. There will be a parade in which the athletes will walk, and Humberto Tan will present a podium program. The Olympians will get a speech from the chef de mission, Pieter van den Hoogenband, and will watch a film looking back on their sporting achievements at the Games. There will also be performances by Kenny B, among others.
According to the municipality of The Hague, over 2,000 people will attend the event, including guests from sports associations, sponsors, and the sports organization NOC*NSF.
