Arnhem bridge turns yellow for Vitesse's first match of the season
The John Frostbrug in Arnhem will be lit up in yellow on Friday night at 9 p.m. during Vitesse's first league match of the season. The game against Telstar in the Gelredome will start an hour before this, but the yellow lighting will only be visible when it gets dark.
The bridge crosses the Nederrijn and is also called the Oude Brug, which means the old bridge. It was named after English Lieutenant Colonel John Dutton Frost and played a significant role in Operation Market Garden.
Vitesse’s first match of the season has added importance because the club was fighting to maintain its existence last season. They were in danger of losing their professional license and would have had to become an amateur team. Concerns and things to be sorted out regarding the club's ownership remain, but they have been permitted to play in the second division Keuken Kampioen Divisie, starting on Friday.
The municipality of Arnhem initiated this action.
