Dutchman also rescued from collapsed German hotel; Badly hurt

Rescue workers pulled a Dutchman from the rubble of a collapsed hotel on the Moselle River in the German town of Kroeve. He reportedly sustained severe injuries. His wife and child were pulled from the rubble alive earlier on Wednesday. Two people died in the collapse. Six people have been rescued from the hotel. One person is still trapped under the rubble, NOS reports.

The local newspaper Het Urkerland identified the Dutch family pulled from the rubble as a 26-year-old man, a 23-year-old woman, and a nearly 2-year-old boy from Urk.

The identities of the two people who died are still unknown. The emergency services have only said that they were a man and a woman and that they died instantly due to the collapse. It took rescue workers some time to recover one of the two bodies. The building is dangerous to enter due to the risk of further collapse.

The hotel suddenly collapsed around 11:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The cause of the collapse is still unknown. The local fire brigade reported that construction work was done on the building on Tuesday. It is not yet clear whether the two are related.

The building dates from the 17th century, but two floors were added in the 1980s. The ceiling is made of concrete to support the extra floors.
