Rotterdam man arrested for trying to ram police car with 5-year-old in back seat

A Rotterdam man is accused of attempted manslaughter after he tried to deliberately ram a police car while he had a 5-year-old child in the car with him, the police said on Monday. The man was arrested in Antwerp on Sunday after the police chased him there from Etten-Leur.

At around 7:10 p.m. on Sunday, the police signaled the man to stop at a roadblock on Oosterpoort for a general vehicle check. According to the police, the man did not comply. Instead, he forced his way through the roadblock by trying to crash into a police car. The police officer inside prevented the collision by quickly maneuvering out of the way.

The man sped away and the police gave chase, finally bringing him to a stop in Antwerp with help from their Belgian colleagues. It was then that the police discovered that the Rotterdam man had a 5-year-old girl in the car with him.

The police arrested the 30-year-old man on suspicion of manslaughter. He is in custody for questioning. The police did not say what happened to the child.
