Explosive found at café in The Hague, busy traffic square cordoned off

In The Hague, a large section of the Soestdijkseplein near the Zuiderpark has been closed following a report of a "suspected explosive device," police have announced. A spokesperson announced that the square, considered an important link in The Hague's road network, is "more or less completely closed." Bus traffic across the square is also blocked.

Footage shows that the suspected explosive is attached to a shutter of a building. According to local media, it looks like a hand grenade. The Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) service is on-site to investigate the incident, the police spokesman said. The building affected was a commercial building, which is currently closed. The same building, a café, was the scene of an arson attack last year.

@POL_Zuiderpark https://t.co/QAV6ITMotJ

The police have created a large barrier in the area as a precaution, a spokesperson informed. The Explosive Ordnance Disposal Service of the Ministry of Defence (EOD) has secured the explosive, which has been taped to the door of the café with duct tape, AD reported.

They closed off a large part of the Soestdijkseplein near the Zuiderpark because of a suspicious package reported around 10:15 a.m. According to the police, as soon as the investigation is completed, the square, which is considered an important link in The Hague's road network, can be reopened.
