18 TeamNL athletes travel by train to Paris Olympics
On Sunday, eighteen TeamNL athletes boarded the train to Paris for the Olympic Games. Gymnasts Lieke and Sanne Wevers boarded the Thalys. The Dutch delegation is traveling in groups to the French capital. Most of the athletes will travel by train, and others will travel by bus.
Eurostar is TeamNL's travel partner. The rail company will also transport the British, Belgians and Germans. A total of 2,000 athletes will travel to Paris with Eurostar, divided over 160 trains.
Eurostar expects to transport 2 million passengers to the Olympic and Paralympic Games. The capacity on the Amsterdam-Paris route has been increased by 27 percent compared to 2023.
Eurostar also advertises that this way of traveling is more environmentally friendly for athletes as well as for visitors to the Olympic Games. “We’re the greener way to get to the Olympic Games. Taking the train from London to Paris emits an average of 96% less CO₂ emissions than travelling by plane,” it says on the rail company’s website.
The opening ceremony of the Olympic Games will take place on Friday. By then, several Olympic Games will have already been completed.
