Fire outbreak on pancake boat in Rotterdam, passengers unharmed
A fire broke out in a control cabinet on the pancake boat in Rotterdam on Sunday, a spokesperson for the fire department confirmed after reports.
During a boat tour with 32 passengers on the Nieuwe Maas, the crew noticed smoke coming from the switch box, which is located at the back of the boat. However, the crew managed to extinguish the fire themselves.
The pancake boat then docked at the former Tropicana bathing paradise on the Maasboulevard so that the dozens of passengers could disembark safely, a spokesman for the safety region told regional broadcaster RTV Rijnmond. Shortly after, the fire department could carry out an inspection. Some passengers were checked because they had possibly inhaled smoke.
Afterwards, the same pancake boat took the passengers back to their boarding point at the Parkhaven near the Euromast. The boat will not sail for the rest of the day, as the cupboard where the fire broke out needs to be repaired. According to the fire department spokesman, the cause of the fire is most likely a short circuit.
