Boeing expects commercial airline fleet to double by 2043

The global fleet of commercial aircraft will nearly double by 2043 due to strong growth in aviation. According to Boeing, airlines will have 50,170 aircraft in service, compared to 26,750 aircraft last year.

According to Boeing, 43,975 new aircraft will also be delivered by aircraft manufacturers to airlines during that period. About half of these will replace older models with more fuel-efficient and quieter aircraft.

Of these new aircraft, the vast majority, over 33,000, are so-called single-aisle jets, aircraft with only a middle aisle suitable for medium-range distances. Widebody jets for long distances account for over 8,000 new aircraft. The remainder consists of aircraft for regional routes and freight traffic.

Boeing also expects that the number of people needed worldwide for aircraft maintenance and other tasks will double to approximately 85 million by 2043.
