Woman stabbed to death in Amsterdam apartment building; Man, 22, in custody
A woman was stabbed to death in the stairwell of an apartment building on Hagenau in Amsterdam-Noord on Friday morning. The police arrested a 22-year-old man. “His exact role and relationship to the victim is being investigated,” the police said. Locals told AT5 that they were neighbors.
The first report of the violent incident came in at around 9:55 a.m. The police and paramedics responded to the apartment building and found the critically injured woman in the stairwell. First responders tried to resuscitate her, but it was to no avail. She died at the scene.
Officers arrested the suspect, a 22-year-old local, a short time later. He is in custody for questioning.
The police cordoned off the stairwell for investigation. According to AT5, a firetruck responded to the scene so that residents still in their homes could use the ladder to get out.
Investigators asked witnesses and anyone with relevant surveillance camera or doorbell camera footage to come forward.
