Sunny and warm weather to last till Thursday; Thermometers could hit 30 on Wednesday

After a gray, wet, and gloomy start, summer has finally arrived in the Netherlands. This week will see plenty of sunshine, and thermometers may climb to tropical values of 30 degrees Celsius. The chance of showers increases from Thursday, and the days will be cooler from Friday, Weeronline reported.

Monday will be sunny, dry, and warm. Temperatures will hit 20 degrees by mid-morning and climb to summer values of 25 or 26 degrees inland during the afternoon. The coastal areas will see maximums around 23 degrees, and the Wadden Islands around 21 degrees. “A sea breeze may pick up on the beaches during the afternoon. Keep this in mind if you’re planning a beach day. Also, make sure to apply sunscreen when you go outside!” the weather service said.

There will be little change to the sunny weather on Tuesday. No rain is expected, and thermometers will climb to summer values of 25 degrees or higher almost everywhere. The Wadden Islands and areas close to the coast will be slightly less warm, with maximums between 22 and 24 degrees. In Limburg, thermometers could reach 29 degrees.

Wednesday will be even warmer, with maximums of up to 30 degrees expected in the southeast. The Wadden Islands will be around 23 degrees, and the rest of the country will see maximums between 26 and 29 degrees. It will be humid, and some cumulus clouds may form during the afternoon, but no rain is expected.

Thursday will also be very warm, with highs ranging between 25 and 29 degrees on a large scale. “The wind turns to the west, causing the chance of showers to gradually increase. A few showers may occur locally,” Weeronline said.

As the forecast now stands, the summer heat will leave the country on Friday. Heavy rain and thunderstorms are expected, with maximums around 19 to 24 degrees. This is disappointing for summer lovers but “quite normal” for the time of year, Weeronline said.

“From the weekend onward, the weather will consist of a mix of clouds, sun, and occasional showers. The temperature may drop slightly further.”
