Court ruling on Peter R. de Vries assassination today

The Amsterdam court will rule in the case around the murder of crime reporter Peter R. de Vries on Wednesday. He was shot in the middle of the street in Amsterdam almost three years ago and died from his injuries nine days later. The court ordered all nine suspects to be present at the sentencing in the court bunker in Amsterdam-Osdorp.

The Public Prosecution Service (OM) demanded life in prison against three suspects in this criminal case. It concerns the alleged gunman Delano G., getaway driver Kamil E., and “murder broker” Krystian M.

The six other suspects heard sentence demands ranging from 3 to 21 years in prison. They allegedly prepared De Vries’s murder of filmed the seriously injured crime reporter immediately after the attack and distributed the images on social media. De Vries was shot on 6 July 2021 on Lange Leidsedwarsstraat in the center of Amsterdam after appearing on RTL Boulevard. He succumbed to his injuries in the hospital nine days later.

The court was ready to rule against the alleged shooter and getaway driver as early as 2022. The two also faced life in prison at the time. However, parts of the criminal case had to be repeated after the OM presented a new witness. According to this witness, referred to by the number 5089 or Eddy, Krystian M. arranged the murder on behalf of a Moroccan man he called “uncle.”

The OM believes this “uncle” is Ridouan Taghi. He previously denied the accusation and is not a suspect in this case, but was sentenced to life in prison earlier this year in the major Marengo assassination trial.

The OM is convinced De Vries was murdered because he acted as a confidant of the key witness in the Marengo trial. Key witness Nabil B.’s brother and lawyer were previously assassinated.
