European Championships: KNVB organizes fan parade from Hardenberg to Hamburg
The KNVB is organizing a fan parade on June 14, the opening day of the European Championship in Germany. The football association hopes that as many fans as possible will make their way to Hamburg in an orange caravan, where the Dutch team will play against Poland on June 16.
Former international players Gerald Vanenburg and Danny Koevermans kick off the fan parade on the grounds of Hardenberg football club. Fans will also gather at FC Eindhoven AV and RKSV NEO in Borne, where national team players Cody Gakpo (FC Eindhoven AV) and Wout Weghorst (RKSV NEO) played. They will travel together to the central venue in Hardenberg. From there, they will be taken to Germany in special vehicles provided by the KNVB partners.
"In Hardenberg, all Dutch fans will receive an orange surprise package for their car and can participate in the procession," said KNVB Director of Professional Football Marianne van Leeuwen. "There will be music and all kinds of festivities to create the right atmosphere. We are looking forward to traveling to Germany together in a great atmosphere. We think it's important that we are also aware of this, and we call on the fans to travel to the tournament together."
The Netherlands will also play against France (June 21) and Austria (June 25) in the group stage of the European Championships. The KNVB hopes that fans will travel to Leipzig and Berlin in well-stocked cars with the environment in mind.
