Dutch football fans go viral again with their 50th march to the stadium
Football is a big deal in the Netherlands, and Oranje fans once again showed that with their 50th march to the stadium for the Netherlands’ first match in the Euro 2024. Videos showing many thousands of orange-clad football fans jumping, cheering, and marching through the streets of Hamburg have gone viral on social media.
The Netherlands played and won their first match in the European Championship against Poland in Hamburg on Sunday. Some 40,000 Dutch football fans went to the German city to watch Oranje’s 2-1 victory over Poland.
Germany implemented border controls and extra security around the UEFA football tournament, mainly to keep aggressive football supporters away. In the run-up to Oranje’s first match, the German police checked at least 4,600 football fans traveling from the Netherlands to Germany. The local police told ANP that football fans were mostly friendly and understanding at the checks.
