Trial with speed cameras for 30 kilometers per hour starts in Amsterdam
Speed cameras will be installed in Amsterdam on Saturday to enforce the 30 kilometers per hour speed limit. This is the first time speed cameras have been used for this purpose.
At the end of last year, the speed limit was increased to 30 kilometers per hour in many parts of Amsterdam. However, according to the Public Prosecution Service, drivers still do not adhere to the speed limit everywhere.
To investigate whether speed cameras are the right tool, the Public Prosecution Service is launching a pilot project. The four fixed speed cameras on the Stadhouderskade are set to the maximum speed of 30 kilometers per hour. Anyone driving too fast will be fined.
Mobile speed cameras will also be set up on Postjesweg, Kattenburgerstraat, and Oostenburgergracht. The cameras will remain in the same place for around two months.
