Police investigating sexual abuse of 5-year-old girl at Hague primary school
The parents of a 5-year-old girl reported to the police that their child was sexually abused at the Erasmus primary school in The Hague last week. The police are investigating, the police confirmed to RTL Nieuws after reports in AD.
The police said the girl underwent a medical examination. Officers visited the school and viewed the available camera footage. The police spoke of “transgressive behavior” and said that no suspect had been identified yet. There are no indications that more pupils were involved.
Messages on a parents’ group chat indicate that the girl was abused during recess or while playing outside, according to AD. Mehr Onderwijs, the organization that arranges after-school care at the Erasmus School, told the newspaper that it viewed the camera images with the police.
According to the company, the footage showed that none of its employees were involved. All employees working that day were continuously visible in the footage, and there was no one-on-one situation with any of the children, the company said.
The management of the Erasmus School issued a statement asking parents to remain calm. The school confirmed that one parent reported “an incident of inappropriate behavior” and said it took the report very seriously.
A spokesperson for the Erasmus School told AD that the school is fully cooperating with the police investigation. “We informed all parents at the school last week about this possible incident. Unfortunately, we cannot say more about it at this time because the police investigation is ongoing.”
