Chilly & mostly dry King's Night ahead of a warm King's Day; Chance of showers tomorrow

The past period of cold spring weather will give way to warmer temperatures just in time for King’s Day. King’s Night will still be chilly, and late-night revelers should remember their coats. But Saturday will be noticeably warmer, with maximums between 14 and 18 degrees, though with a chance of showers in the afternoon, according to Weeronline.

Friday will be mostly dry. The northwest and southeast may still see some light rain in the morning, but that will clear up during the day. With afternoon temperatures between 10 degrees on the Wadden and 14 degrees in parts of Limburg, it will already be warmer than in recent days.

Friday evening will see a few showers in the south, but most places will be a dry mix of clouds and clear spells. At around 8:00 p.m., the temperature will be between 8 and 12 degrees. Good weather for King’s Night activities like the famous flee market in Utrecht.

People planning to participate in the late-night festivities will do well to remember their coats, and maybe an umbrella. There may be some showers after midnight, especially in the western provinces. And temperatures will drop to between 2 degrees in the north and 7 degrees in the south. Quite chilly, but significantly warmer than in recent years. Last year, King’s Night revelers faced below-freezing temperatures.

For the main event on Saturday, “we can say we are lucky as far as temperature is concerned,” Weeronline said. After below-average temperatures since April 15, thermometers will climb to around 14 degrees near the sea and 18 degrees in the southeast on King’s Day. In Emmen, where Willem-Alexander will celebrate his birthday with his family, maximums will rise to 17 degrees.

The weather pattern will be a mix of sunshine and clouds, with an increasing chance of showers from the south. “During the afternoon, there will be scattered showers across the country,” Weeronline said. “Local showers may be heavy, with a chance of hail, thunder, and a lot of rain in a short time.”

It seems like the warmer weather is here to stay. Sunday will see sunny periods interlaced with some showers and strong winds, with gusts up to 70 kilometers per hour. But the strong southerly wind also brings warmer air and thermometers will climb to around 18 degrees on a large scale.

Next week will see increasingly higher temperatures, as well as an increasing chance of thunderstorms. Afternoon temperatures will top 20 from Tuesday onwards, with room for sunshine, but also rain and thunderstorms. Nighttime temperatures will drop to 8 to 11 degrees.
