Video: Three killed in head-on crash in Friesland village
Three people were killed in a head-on crash in Friesland on Thursday. The two vehicles crashed into each other on the N369 in Kootstertille at about 5:30 p.m.
Both vehicles shown signs of extensive front-end damage. Initially, police said "several people were seriously injured." Despite efforts to treat and revive them, none of the occupants survived in either of the wrecked passenger cars.
Police did not release any biographical details about the victims. A spokesperson for the police told broadcaster NOS that the victims' ages and places of residence will likely be released on Friday.
The cause of the accident was still under investigation. The accident happened on a stretch of the provincial road known as De Koaten. The speed limit on the two-line road is 80 kilometers per hour.
The accident took place about 15 kilometres east of Leeuwarden. The village of Kootstertille is part of the Frisian municipality, Achtkarspelen.
