Amsterdam taxi hits baby stroller and flees the scene; police looking for witnesses

Police are searching for a taxi driver who struck a stroller in Amsterdam-Noord on Tuesday and then fled the scene, the police reported on Wednesday. As a result of the collision, a five-month-old baby was ejected from the stroller. The baby was sent to the hospital with unknown injuries.

The incident took place around 5:15 p.m. on the Kamperfoelieweg. A mother, accompanied by her three children with one in a stroller, was trying to cross the street to reach Floraweg. "It was very busy, and the woman decided to cross the road and then the bus lane using the zebra crossing," the police stated. Just then, a taxi drove around stationary vehicles via the bus line and struck the stroller.

The police stated that a bystander administered first aid to the baby, who was then transported to the hospital. The mother and the other two children remained unharmed.

Following the collision, the taxi driver continued driving without stopping, heading in the direction of Van der Spekstraat. Preliminary descriptions from the police suggest the vehicle in question might be a light grey Opel with five-spoke rims and a blue license plate, driven by a male driver. The vehicle may also exhibit damage on the right front side due to the impact.

Police are actively investigating the circumstances surrounding the incident and are looking to identify and locate the driver. Witnesses or anyone with information or footage about the incident are encouraged to contact the Traffic Investigation Team of the Amsterdam police at 0900-8844.
