Janssen to deliver 170,000 vaccines to NL by end April

Leiden pharmaceutical company Janssen will deliver nearly 170,000 coronavirus vaccines to the Netherlands in April, departing Minister Hugo de Jonge of Public Health said in a letter to parliament. This vaccine requires only one dose per patient, so that's enough to vaccinate nearly 170,000 Netherlands residents.

The vaccine is marketed under Johnson & Johnson, the Leiden pharmaceutical's parent company. Janssen intends to deliver 87,450 doses to the Netherlands in mid-April, and the same amount by the end of the month.

The Netherlands ordered a total of over 11 million doses from Janssen. 3 million of those doses are expected in the coming months, De Jonge said.

The Janssen vaccine is the fourth coronavirus vaccine approved for use in the European Union, after vaccines developed by Pfizer/BioNTech, Moderna, and AstraZeneca.

The Dutch Health Council advised that the Janssen vaccine be used for people over the age of 60 who have certain medical conditions that put them at higher risk from the coronavirus - specifically Down's Syndrome, obesity, and neurological disorders that could cause breathing difficulties.
