Covid press conference watched by 6.4 million

A massive 6.4 million people tuned in to watch Prime Minister Mark Rutte and Health Minister Hugo de Jonge announce new measures in the fight against the coronavirus on Monday, according to figures from Stichting Kijkonderzoek. That is much more than the previous press conference, when about 3.6 million people watched live on television, NU.nl reports.

The vast majority of people watched the press conference via NPO1, which got 4.66 million viewers. RTL4 got 1.34 million viewers, and SBS got 404 thousand. The press conference could also be watched online via various channels and was broadcast on the radio.

While the number of viewers increased significantly compared to the previous press conference, Monday night's viewers were not yet at the level of the press conferences at the start of the pandemic. At its peak, some 7 million people watched those press conferences at a time.
