Amsterdam taxi drivers caught driving under influence of THC

The Amsterdam police arrested six taxi drivers during the early hours of Sunday morning on suspicion of driving under the influence of drugs. They tested positive for THC and amphetamine during a control, AT5 reports

The police of Amsterdam tested 18 taxi drivers. The drivers underwent a saliva test. Six of them tested positive for THC and amphetamine. The six drivers were then arrested on suspicion of under the influence. Blood was also taken from them to conduct blood tests for further investigation.

"These drivers were chosen at random," a police spokesperson said to the Amsterdam broadcaster. He noted that there has been an increase of the number of Amsterdam taxi drivers who were driving under the influence.

"During a check in February, one in eight inspected drivers had a positive test result, now one in three. That is very significant, especially since they are professional drivers," said the spokesman. "This confirms that these controls are useful and necessary and that we will continue to monitor them in the future."
