Over 1,500 kilos of cocaine destined for Vlissingen seized at Rotterdam port

The authorities seized a total of 1,550 kilograms of cocaine in two shipments destined for Vlissingen at the port of Rotterdam in October. In both cases the drugs were hidden in banana shipments from Ecuador, the Public Prosecution Service said on its website.

One shipment containing 750 kilograms of cocaine was seized on October 31st, the Prosecutor announced on Wednesday. The drugs were discovered with the help of sniffer dogs and a scan. The container of bananas was destined for a company in Vlissingen. "That company had nothing to do with the smuggling", the Prosecutor said. The drugs were destroyed. So far no arrested were made.

On October 16th, a check at the Rotterdam port led to the discovery of 800 kilograms of cocaine. This container of bananas was also destined for a company in Vlissingen, which he Prosecutor believes had nothing to do with the drug trafficking. These drugs were also destroyed, and no arrests were made thus far.

Whether the two cocaine shipments were destined for the same company, the Prosecutor did not say. No statements were made regarding whether the two shipments were linked.
