Nurse stabbed at Castricum mental health clinic

A nurse was stabbed at a mental healthcare institution in Castricum on Tuesday evening. He was taken to hospital with unknown injuries, but in a stable condition, the police said in a statement. A 40-year-old man from Amsterdam was arrested as a suspect a short time after the stabbing.

The police responded to the institution on Oude Parklaan at around 8:40 p.m. At the scene they found that the suspect had fled in the direction of the train station. The 40-year-old Amsterdam man was arrested on Kramersweg and taken to a police station for questioning.

A spokesperson for the Parnassiagroep, the foundation that manages the institution in question, could not tell NU.nl whether the suspect was a patient at the clinic. A police spokesperson also could not provide answers on this front, according to the newspaper.

The police are investigating exactly what happened and call on witnesses to come forward.
