Roof above AFAS stadium's main stand also unsafe, to be replaced

AZ will also replace the roof above the main stand of the AFAS stadium, the club announced on Tuesday. Investigation launched after part of the stadium's roof collapsed in a storm in August showed that this part of the stadium's roof is also unsafe.

"We put the safety of our fans and visitors first and therefore do not take any risks. That is why we have decided to renew the roof above the main stand as soon as possible", CEO Robert Eenhoorn said on the AZ site. When the work on the roof above the main stand will be done, is not yet clear.

Until the roof is fixed, the AFAS stadium in Alkmaar cannot be used. AZ is therefore currently playing their home games in ADO Den Haag's Cars Jeans Stadium in The Hague.

AZ perviously said that they hope to be back in their own stadium by mid-December. But with the main stand's roof also needing replacing, it remains to be seen whether that deadline will be achieved.
