Polish woman abducted in Netherlands rescued in Germany; three arrested

A special unit of the German police rescued a 22-year-old Polish woman on Saturday night, after she was abducted from a holiday park in the Netherlands. Three suspects, aged 26, 27 and 32, all from Poland, were arrested, the Dutch police said in a statement.

The woman was abducted from a recreation park in Opmeer in Noord-Holland at around 1:00 a.m. on Saturday morning. A man forced her into a car under threat of a firearm, witnesses told the Dutch police. The police notified their German colleagues, as witnesses saw the car used in the abduction heading towards the German border.

Investigation led the German police to a home in Bergheim near Cologne. While special units were preparing to raid the home, the suspected was seen driving on the A57 highway, near the Dutch-German border at Gennep heading towards Krefeld. A police unit was deployed to follow the vehicle, while the others raided the home.

The woman was found inside the car, which was forced to a stop near Willich at around 9:00 p.m. on Saturday. The car's driver and another passenger were both arrested. Both men sustained minor injuries during the arrest. The third suspect was arrested in the home in Bergheim.

"The 22-year-old woman was taken care of by the German police", the Dutch police said in a statement. "The abduction logically had a major impact on the woman. She is being offered the necessary assistance."

The motive behind the abduction is under investigation.
