Four buildings on fire in Tilburg; explosions heard

A fire broke out in a business premises on Zevenheuvelenweg in Tilburg during the early hours of Thursday morning. The fire spread to three adjacent buildings, a spokesperson for local safety office Veiligheidsregio Midden- en West-Brabant said to NU.nl. Witnesses reported hearing multiple explosions.

The fire started in a bakery at 3:00 a.m. The fire brigade quickly scaled up, calling in aid and extinguishers from fire departments in several regions as well as the air force. At least 80 firefighters are at the scene trying to get the blaze under control. The safety office spokesperson described it as a "very, very large fire with meters high flames" to the newspaper.

Due to plastic items in the burning buildings, there is a lot of smoke. The fire department advises residents to keep their windows and doors closed. An NL-Alert to that effect was sent to locals at 4:30 a.m. Firefighters are also taking measurements for hazardous substances released by the fire.
