Dutch man, 21, dies in Spanish party town

Dewi de Koster, a 21-year-old man from Haarlem, died after a night out in the popular Spanish party town of Lloret de Mar. The Dutch man was found unconscious in the street with severe head injuries during the early hours of Saturday morning. He succumbed to his injuries in a hospital in Barcelona a few days later. His family is desperate to know what happened, his sister Amy Moison said to the Telegraaf.

Dewi was holidaying with a group of friends and his 17-year-old brother in Lloret de Mar. They went out on Friday night. "Dewi walked away on his own at some point and then everyone lost sight of him", Moison said to the newspaper. Some time later the police found his younger brother and told him that Dewi had been rushed to the Vall d'Hebron university hospital in Barcelona by helicopter.

The younger brother rushed to the hospital and called his family, who hurried to Spain. They were unable to speak to Dewi. "He was already brain dead we heard", Moison said. "We had hoped that he would wake up, but he never regained consciousness." He succumbed to his injuries a few days later.

"We're living in a daze. And want to know what exactly happened. The Spanish police or judiciary would tell us what happened, but we still have not been contacted. All information we receive comes through the Dutch consulate." According to Moison, they were first told that the police believe Dewi fell from a balcony, then that he fell from a four meter high wall. "But his injuries do not match that story. He had broken all the bones in his face, but had no bruise or scratch on his body. That can't be right?" she said to the newspaper. "It must not remain unclear what happened. My brother does not deserve that."

The Telegraaf asked the Spanish police and judiciary about the Dutch man's death and was told that they could say little about the case.
