PVV leader in Zeeland accused of subsidy fraud: report

Peter van Dijk, PVV leader in Zeeland and senator for the party, misused public money to campaign for the Provincial States elections, NRC reports based on documents, bank statements and audio recordings.

The rules of the province of Zeeland explicitly prohibit using community money for election campaigns, according to the newspaper. This is seen as subsidy fraud. Van Dijk is accused of violating the rules in his position as leader of the PVV faction in Zeeland.

According to NRC, PVV leader Geert Wilders was informed about the evidence against Van Dijk last week, but he still has confidence in the Zeeland faction's leader. The rest of the faction in the Provincial State in Zeeland already gave up their confidence in Van Dijk eleven days ago.

Van Dijk is accused of making death threats, abuse of power, nepotism and abuse of public funds, according to the newspaper. "He has done practically nothing in front of and behind the scenes in recent years", the PVV faction in Zeeland said.
