Four in ten Dutch have no interest in King's Day
While the majority of Dutch still find King's Day a fun party, four in ten people say that they are not a fan of the holiday on King Willem-Alexander's birthday, according to a study by Acties.nl among 1,025 Dutch people, RTL Nieuws reports
The survey showed that 41 percent don't care much about King's Day. Half of all respondents also said that they do not mind working on King's Day if that means they can take a day off at some other time. Limburg residents are most negative about King's Day. Over two thirds of Limburgers don't mind working during the national holiday, and only 28 percent said that they are fans of King's Day.
A major annoyance is the crowds during King's Day, according to the study. 39 percent of respondents are annoyed by this. A third said the crowds are reason enough for them to stay out of the center of their hometown on April 27th. Gelderland residents are most annoyed by the crowds, Zeeland residents least.
Another annoyance is alcohol. Almost half of respondents said that excessive alcohol consumption by fellow party goers annoy them. 38 percent are in favor of a general ban on drinking. Remarkably, the support for such a ban is lowest among residents of Noord-Holland, where most of the King's Day parties and festivals are.
