Tanker collides with cruise ship, multiple hurt

A tanker and a cruise ship collided on the Westerschelde near Terneuzen during the early hours of Monday morning. Multiple people sustained minor injuries. One was taken to hospital by ambulance, the others were treated at the scene, local safety office Veiligheidsregio Zeeland said on Twitter.

Cruise ship Viking Indun and tanker Chemical Marketer collided around midnight. Both ships were damaged, but as the damage happened above the water line, neither of them took on water.

The injuries happened among the 171 passengers on board the Viking Indun. The ship was docked in Terneuzen. No one on the tanker was hurt.

According to the safety office, the Chemical Marketer was on its way to Antwerp with a load of oil. The load did not leak into the Westerschelde.
