Video: Train crashes through semi-trailer in Leeuwarden

Startling security camera footage surfaced on Wednesday showing the moment a passenger train collided with a semi-trailer truck. The crash happened in Leeuwarden, Friesland late last week, resulting in several minor injuries.

A large cloud can be seen emanating from the semi-trailer at the moment of impact. The truck was hauling milk powder near a FrieslandCampina dairy facility. The video was first broadcast by Omroep Fryslan.

Pictures from the scene showed significant damage to the Arriva train, which partially derailed. ProRail, which manages the Dutch national railroad infrastructure, said that four passengers and the train engineer were injured.

Omroep Fryslan noted that the truck driver was also slightly hurt.

It took less than 24 hours for the firm to remove the train, and repair the rail crossing. The site was reopened to rail traffic by 4 p.m. on Saturday.
